Did you know that the American Dietetic Association reports that about 40% of Americans take vitamin supplements, but studies show many don’t know how to safely or appropriately use a supplement, or even if they need supplements in the first place?

Many healthcare organizations encourage individuals to get enough vitamins and minerals each day through foods ingested. However, sometimes this can be a challenge and additionally, we may need different types and amounts of vitamins at different points in our lives.  Using dietary supplements can be a solution.

Are you currently taking a vitamin or multi-vitamin? Do you know if you are getting enough of what your body needs, or if you could potentially be getting too much? Sometimes you can get “too much of a good thing.”

So, what do you need to know when considering whether or not to take a multivitamin? The Food and Drug Administration encourages individuals to evaluate their daily intake needs and discuss vitamin needs with a physician.  For information on important vitamins at different ages, visit: http://www.healthy-vitamin-choice.com/vitamins-for-all-ages.html.

Some of this information was provided by the Food and Drug Administration (www.fda.gov) and the American Dietetic Association (www.eatright.org).
