Business Etiquette doesn’t have to be complicated, but there are certainly some bad manners that can be easily avoided at business meetings, conferences, business dinners and receptions.  Avoid these 3 meeting etiquette errors and you’ll be off to a great start!

1. Failing to respond to an RSVP.  We all get busy and invites end up under a stack of papers on our desk or at the bottom of our email inbox, but you should always respond within 5 days of receiving an invitation.  And don’t forget to mark it on your calendar.  If you must decline at the last minute, you should always notify the host prior to the event or first thing the next day with sincere regrets.

2. Failing to arrive on time.  Punctuality is a must.  Be punctual or even better turn up a bit earlier.  If this is not possible, arrive at the scheduled time at the latest.  But don't be late!  If you turn up late, step in quickly and quietly while taking your seat.  The less interruption you create the better.

3. Failing to follow the dress code.  Although your office may be business casual, you should always read the invitation prior to the event and recognize the dress code information.  When in doubt, always overdress for circumstances.
