A prolific writer and keynote speaker, Dr. John-Steiner, Presidential Professor of Linguistics and Education at the University of New Mexico, will be visiting Ithaca College on April 13,  2010. Beginning at noon in an informal discussion with students and faculty,  Dr. Steiner will discuss ideas and research concerning collaborative creative thought, followed by a public lecture that evening from 7 - 8:30 pm in the Clark Lounge, at the Campus Center, Egbert Hall.

Providing insights into the creative processes of people in diverse disciplines, including journalism, physics, philosophy, music, psychology, mathematics and filmmaking;  John-Steiner’s work identifies the psychological tools necessary for interdisciplinary research, educational reform, and social action to collectively resolve the complex social and environmental issues of the 21st century.
How do scientists, artists, and intellectuals develop and materialize new ideas? What is the role of collaboration in the creative process? How does innovation evolve across the life span? Join a campus and community event to discuss these topics.

John-Steiner’s visit is sponsored by the School of Humanities and Sciences’ Dean’s Office—Department of Education; Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies—Gerontology Institute and The Linden Center for Creativity and Aging; and the Office of the Provost and the School of Music.
