John de Graaf, filmmaker and founder of TAKE BACK YOUR TIME, gives two talks on April 15Contributed by Lana Morse on 04/14/10 Award-winning filmmaker and best-selling author John de Graaf will give two presentations at 12:10 and 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 15. Both talks are free and open to the public. John's talks will be of interest to anyone who is concerned about sustainability, the environment, time poverty, health, the economy, and personal well-being -- and how all these topics are connected.
12:10-1:00 p.m. "From Overconsumption to Time Affluence: Trading 'Stuff' for Time, Health, Families, and the Environment." - Clark Lounge 7:00-9:00 p.m. "WHAT'S THE ECONOMY FOR, ANYWAY?"...a new film and discussion - Textor 102 FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC John De Graaf is an executive diretor of TAKE BACK YOUR TIME, an orgnaization challenging time poverty and overwork in the U.S. and Canada (see www.timeday.org). John is editor of the TAKE BACK YOUR TIME handbook (2003) and co-author of the best-selling AFFLUENZA: THE ALL-CONSUMING EPIDEMIC (2005). John is also an independent filmmaker of television documentaries, based in Seattle. Over 15 of his films have been broadcast nationally during prime time on PBS. The titles of his films include RUNNING OUT OF TIME; AFFLUENZA; ESCAPE FROM AFFLUENZA; BEYOND ORGANIC; SILENT KILLER: THE UNFINISHED CAMPAIGN AGAINST HUNGER; BUYER, BE FAIR; and THE MOTHERHOOD MANIFESTO, which Obama introduced when it premiered at the U.S. Senate in 2006. His new film, WHAT'S THE ECONOMY FOR, ANYWAY?, takes a humorous look at American economic policy.
