Internship Descriptions:

 

Media Construction of Sustainability:  1 Intern needed

Research and obtain documents for our new media literacy curriculum kit entitled Media Construction of Sustainability: Food, Water and Agriculture. Responsibilities will evolve over the term, including background research, document identification and some curriculum drafting, This internship will help deepen your understanding of the concept of media literacy and help you to acquire media literacy skills through the application of document-based questioning techniques.  This internship will allow you to study the topic of sustainability as defined now and in the past, and you will practice research skills in the area of still and moving image document search.

 

Website Design Internship:  1 Intern needed

For this internship, an intermediate to advanced understanding of HTML, Dreamweaver or other web editing software is required.  Basics of web design and construction along with previous experience is preferred.  The tasks for this internship are the following: create and implement meta-tags for search engine optimization; organize back-end file structure for existing website; convert from Urchin to Google Analytics; implement analytics code throughout website.  Research and implement interactive site features: forms and surveys; research & report on password and restricted section for members only program; upload and design new curriculum kit pages; seek out, research, and recommend new design tweaks.  This internship will allow you to learn how to manage and maintain a professional organization’s website; learn about search engine optimization and analytics software; learn to collaborate within a professional organization, and how design web pages.

 

Video Production:  1 Intern needed

Create short instructional videos for teachers that demonstrate classroom instructional practices that exemplify media decoding. These short videos will be used in workshops and posted on the web. Experience with Final Cut Pro or equivalent is needed. Deepen your experience and skill in video production with an emphasis on editing while you learn media literacy theory and methodology.

 

Promotion and Marketing:  2 Interns needed

Review, develop, and implement many aspects of our marketing plan, including: learn to use web site analysis tool Urchin/Google Analytics and present data to staff, learn to design e-blasts and other online promotions, research referral sites and contacts and add to database, use email templates to reply to inquiries, advise and contribute on PLS social networking site and website, and propose and implement additional promotional activities. Gain experience and skills in marketing and promotion and an understanding of media literacy education.

 

Advertising, Health and Violence Prevention Curriculum for K-5:  2 Interns needed

Research media (commercials and other advertising, TV programs, films, internet websites) for the development of elementary media literacy lessons on advertising, nutrition, body image, bullying and safety issues, and gender stereotypes.  Help design, edit and format lessons; learn to digitize visual and video content, and upload files to the Project Look Sharp channel on YouTube; assist in pilot testing and evaluating lessons taught to children in local school districts. 

 

Curriculum Integration- ICSD and Media Literacy: 1 Intern needed

Work with the directors of Curriculum and Staff Development of both Project Look Sharp and the Ithaca City School District to imbed media literacy lessons and kits into the ICSD online database.  You will review a broad range of media literacy lessons, link them to New York State standards and ICSD learning outcomes, and become familiar with multiple structures for writing and posting educational materials and lesson plans.
