SPSS is SPSS...Again

Last fall ITS announced that SPSS Inc. had changed the name of their statistics package to "PASW Statistics". With IBM's recent acquisition of the SPSS company, the product has been renamed to IBM SPSS Statistics.

This is a name change only, and does not affect current installations of PASW/SPSS Statistics. New installations of the software will show the SPSS name. There will likely be a mix of "SPSS" and "PASW" versions on campus for the foreseeable future.

Having worked with the Sadistical Package for the Slippery Sciences since the '70s I am much relieved to see that I do not have to actually learn the previously announced new name for the product.

SPSS, now and in perpetuity!
