Director Greg Bostwick has set Shakespeare's comedy about eavesdropping in 17th century Italy. While Beatrice and Benedick match wits with one another, their two friends, Hero and Claudio, fall instantly in love and arrangements are made for them to wed. In a scheme to entertain themselves before the wedding, Don Pedro, Hero, Leonato and Claudio devise some harmless deceptions to bring the reluctant Beatrice and Benedick together. Meanwhile, the villainous Don John aims to thwart the marriage of Hero and Claudio. Don John is no match, however, for Messina's bumbling constable Dogberry and his comrades, who inadvertently uncover the plot to shame Hero. Lovers are united and all is set right as the play ends in music and dance.
