Please join us in welcoming Gustavo Licón as the new Assistant Professor for Latino/a Studies in the CSCRE at Ithaca College. Dr. Licón will begin his duties on August 15th, 2010.

Gustavo Licón is a Chicano scholar, activist, and intellectual from Inglewood, California.  He has a doctorate and masters in history from the University of Southern California and a bachelors of arts in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Brown University.  Professor Licón is invested in teaching and researching about the experience of marginalized, exploited, and oppressed groups in the United States and the Americas, and their efforts to survive, resist, and prosper.  Central to his scholarly interests is the dynamic relationship between identity, ideology, and activism.  Currently, Dr. Licón is working on his manuscript ““¡La Union Hace La Fuerza!” (Unity Creates Strength!): M.E.Ch.A. and Chicana/o Student Activism in California, 1967-1999.”  As the most recent faculty addition to the Ithaca College Center for the Study of Race, Culture, and Ethnicity, he will teach Latino/a Studies starting in Fall 2010.
