 Hawk Update

Contributed by Nancy Kotmel on 06/17/10

Since there has been such keen interest shown in the two fledglings living on campus, we decided to provide an update based on some bad news we received late Thursday afternoon.

We are sorry to report that one of the fledglings has passed away. The vet school picked up the hawk from IC early Wednesday morning. It is believed to have been zapped by an electrical wire, which is a common danger for hawks. They will know more about the cause of death after they do a necropsy.

On a brighter note, the remaining fledgling is alive and well, and growing bigger and stronger with each passing day (as you can see from the photo).

Remaining fledgling is not looking so good. Today it was hanging out near
entrance to Job/Link and right eye is completely closed. Not sure if due to injury
or disease. Parents still feeding it though.
