FYRI Facilitators Training

Thursday, August 19 1:00 - 2:30 pm - Clark Lounge, Campus Center
(lunch will be provided)

The First Year Reading Initiative Activities for Tuesday, August 24, 2010

9:45 a.m. - Facilitators Arrive and check-in at station located aht the back of the Hill Center Gym.

  • Each Facilitator will receive a packet marked with their name and the location where they will have their small group discussion.  The packet will include FYRI evaluation forms, instructions on how to return the forms, information about the FYRI raffle, and a dining hall meal pass (IF you requested one).

10:00 a.m. - First Year Students Arrive at Hill Center Gym for a quick introduction and to set the overall expectations of the day and the upcoming year.

10:45 a.m. - Facilitators take their small group to assigned room for discussion session
(Some may opt for going outside for this discussion, which is perfectly reasonable)

11:45 a.m. - Distribute a FYRI evaluation form to each student in your group.

  • Please have students complete the evaluation; place the completed evaluations in your packet.
  • Ask each student to put their name and cell phone number or e-mail address on the back of their raffle ticket.  Collect the raffle tickets and place them in your envelope

12:00 - Conclude your discussion; thank students for participating.

  • Facilitators are invited to go to lunch with their group.  Lunch tickets for facilitators must be requested in advance.  Please e-mail your request for a lunch pass to Hillary Barrett at hbarrett@ithaca.edu.  First Year students will already be on their meal plans.
  • For those Facilitators who choose to go to lunch with their students, please use the Terrace Dining Hall.
  • Later that afternoon:  Please put your completed evaluation envelope in campus mail.  Cross out the label with your name on it.  We have already pre-addressed the envelope to be returned to Joelle Albertsman in the Office of the First Year Experience.
