The School of Humanities and Sciences and the Department of Writing are pleased to welcome Pulitzer Prize winner in fiction Jeffrey Eugenides, acclaimed essayist Paisley Rekdal, and National Book Critics Circle Award finalist in poetry Matthea Harvey as part of this semester’s Distinguished Visiting Writers Series. They will be reading at 7:30pm on September 7th, October 5th, and October 27th, respectively. The readings are free and open to the public. 

Jeffrey Eugenides is the author of two novels, The Virgin Suicides, which has been translated into 34 languages and made into a feature film, and Middlesex, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 2003. He is currently Professor of Creative Writing in the Peter B. Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University. His reading will take place at 7:30pm on Tuesday, September 7th in Emerson Suites, Phillips Hall.

Paisley Rekdal is the author of a collection of personal essays, The Night My Mother Met Bruce Lee, as well as three collections of poetry. Intimate, a hybrid photo-text memoir that combines poems, nonfiction, and fiction with photography, is forthcoming from Tupelo Press in 2011. She teaches at the University of Utah. She will read from her work at 7:30pm on Tuesday, October 5th in Clark Lounge, Egbert Hall.

Matthea Harvey is the author of Sad Little Breathing Machine and Pity the Bathtub Its Forced Embrace of the Human Form. Her third book of poems, Modern Life, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and a New York Times Notable Book. She teaches poetry at Sarah Lawrence College. Her reading will take place at 7:30pm on Wednesday, October 27th in Clark Lounge, Egbert Hall.

In addition to giving a reading, all three Distinguished Visiting Writers will contribute to teaching a 1-credit master class to Ithaca College students.
