Short-term study abroad programs are an important component of the overseas study options available to Ithaca College students. The Office of International Programs (OIP) would like to invite faculty and staff members to submit proposals for new and repeat short-term study abroad programs for winter, spring break, or summer 2011.

College faculty and staff members have successfully lead programs over the past few years in a number of different locations, including China, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, England, Ghana, India, Italy, Korea, Malawi, Mexico, New Zealand, Scotland, and Turkey.

If you are a faculty or staff member interested in developing a new short-term study abroad program, there are resources available on the OIP website to help you with the process, from the initial proposal through to the return home from abroad. The study abroad program development handbook contains information on each step of the process, and focuses on program planning and administration. The proposal form for new study abroad programs will guide you through the proposal process. The proposal should be accompanied by the budget worksheet, on which a detailed budget estimate should be provided.

For faculty and staff members planning to reoffer a short-term abroad program that has successfully been run in the past, please submit the program intent form and submit to the OIP, along with an updated budget worksheet.

Proposals should be submitted, along with a detailed budget breakdown, to the OIP by the following deadlines:

  • Winter 2011 programs: proposal deadline is September 15, 2010
  • Spring break 2011 programs: proposal deadline is October 1, 2010
  • Summer 2011 programs: proposal deadline is October 15, 2011

A workshop will be held in late September or early October for faculty interested in learning more about teaching abroad. Workshop details will be posted on Intercom in the near future.

In the meantime, please contact Rachel Cullenen in the Office of International Programs at rcullenen@ithaca.edu or 607-274-3306 should you need further information, have questions, or wish to discuss a potential new program.

We look forward to receiving your proposal and working with you on your study abroad program!
