Meyer then traveled to China as part of the piano and percussion duo Strike to perform at the Beijing Modern Festival, one of China's most important new music festivals. They also performed at the Tianjin Conservatory, where Professor Mark Radice of the Music School was simultaneously a visiting guest professor. In addition, Meyer gave conducting masterclasses at the Beijing Conservatory, China's preeminent training ground for classical musicians. Strike performed works from their recently released CD Convergence, a recording comprised of five new works commissioned by the duo. The CD is released on Luminescence Records in Chicago and has been favorably reviewed in the American Record Guide and the Downtown Music Guide. Directly after this China tour, Meyer put the final touches on the editing of a recording project with the St. PCP undertaken with Soprano Julia Kogan in the winter of 2009. The album is a world premiere recording of new works written for soprano and string orchestra. The CD will be released later this year on Rideau Records, distributed by Harmonia Mundi. Meyer's summer ended on the faculty at the Icicle Creek Chamber Music Institute in Leavenworth, Washington, where he was part of an international faculty, conducting the Institute orchestra as well as coaching chamber music. |
