Lauren O'Connell, Associate Professor of Art History, is the author of an essay in a recently published book entitled Visualizing Russia:  Fedor Solntsev and Crafting a National Past (edited by Cynthia Hyla Whittaker, Leiden and Boston: Brill, 2010).

The book's essays explore Solntsev's contributions in diverse artistic media to the construction of a "Russian Style" in the early nineteenth century. O'Connell's essay, "Viollet-le-Duc and Solntsev: Publishing Patrimony in France and Russia," places Solntsev's work in a larger European context.

Cogratulations Lauren. Is there a way I can read the article on-line? I'm interested in Russian painters.
