Ithaca College is honored to welcome pianist Terry Waldo to campus for a three-day residency culminating in a public performance at 8pm on Tuesday, September 14th in the Hoerner Theatre in Dillingham Center. There is no charge for this performance and seating is by general admission. 

Waldo is described by The New York Times as a “ragtime pianist nonpareil and eminent scholar of the form.” A protégé of jazz great, Eubie Blake, Waldo is known not only for his virtuosic interpretation of ragtime and early jazz but also for his storytelling and wit.  Waldo has performed all over the world in jazz’s best-known venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and Michael’s Pub.

The San Francisco Examiner wrote, "Waldo's New York Centennial Ragtime Celebration ranks among the best and most entertaining such presentations in my 25 years of Big Apple festival attendance (JVC festival). The ragtime event featured Terry Waldo as bandleader, pianist and narrator/host. He is brilliant and imaginative as a musician and a droll, witty raconteur."


While in Ithaca, Waldo will guest teach in various music classes as well as give a public performance. Following the performance, Waldo will be signing copies of his recently reissued book, "This Is Ragtime," with a forward by Eubie Blake and an introduction by Wynton Marsalis. Also available for purchase will be Mr. Waldo's numerous CDs and DVDs. Personal checks and cash will be accepted. Waldo’s visit is made possible by the Linden Center for Creativity and Aging, the Gerontology Institute, the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life, the School of Humanities and Sciences Educational Grant Initiative, and the Special Events Committee in the School of Music.
