Luke Keller, associate professor of physics, has the lead article in the October issue
of Sky & Telescope magazine. Keller and co-author Juergen Wolf, scientist at the NASA Ames Research Center, describe the first flights of the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) and detail operation of the facility, a large telescope mounted in a 747 aircraft. The article also describes plans for using the new observatory over the next 20 years.
