In October 1998, Wyoming college student Matthew Shepard was brutally beaten and left to die. The horror of this murder pushed Laramie, Wyoming into the media spotlight and sparked a nationwide debate about homophobia, gay-bashing, and hate crimes. The filmmaker, a Laramie native, returns to her hometown to see how this event has affected the city and its residents. Sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Education, Outreach, and Services, the film series this year will explore the theme "History and Heroes of the LGBT Movement." The series will present a total of six films during the fall semester. Additional screenings will take place during the spring. All are free and open to the public. All showings begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in Textor 103. For a complete schedule visit the events section of the LGBT Center website or contact the LGBT Center for a fall film series postcard.
