The Power of Opinion, the Challenge of Diversity: An Open Dialogue on the Ground Zero Islamic Community Center and Mosque - Tuesday, September 28, 7pm in Williams 221Contributed by Don Austin on 09/23/10 An open forum on a very important topic: the possible construction of an Islamic community center and mosque close to Ground Zero in New York City. Should Park51 be built? Should it not? How are we shaping our views on the issue? Williams 221 on Tuesday, September 28 7:00-8:30pm. The possible construction of an Islamic community center and mosque has been a heavily debated topic especially with the passing of the 9th anniversary of September 11th terrorist attack. The Ithaca College Diversity Peer Educator Program will provide a safe, open forum where all students, staff and faculty at IC have the opportunity to voice their opinions and can strengthen their ability to communicate in a diverse world. Diversity Peer Educators will present a timeline of the issue and will show a spectrum of opinions currently found in global mainstream media. Next participants will be formed into groups for discussion and activities. The evening will end with a large group discussion and post-activity reflection. Students will share the opportunity to give perspectives on the issue throughout the evening. Space is limited to 40 students. First come first served. The Diversity Peer Educators Program is sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs at Ithaca College.
