A public debate will be held on Sunday, September 26, at 7pm in Williams 225. The Ithaca College Speech and Debate Team is hosting the British National Team this week. The team arrived yesterday and will participate in tonight's forum on the Ground Zero mosque controversy. The forum will be held in the Student Center near the pub at 5:30. The highlight of visit will be Sunday evening when the debaters from Ithaca College challenge the Brits in a public debate. The topic for Sunday's debate will be – resolved: Tony Blair is a war criminal. Two first year students will represent Ithaca in the debate. Kayla Reopelle and Marcy Weber will support the evenings resolution. Kayla is a Documentary Studies major and Marcy is Exploratory in the Honors Program. Representing the British Team will be Mary Nugent, a recent graduate in Political Philosophy from Cambridge University. Mary has won a variety of national and international tournaments and has taught debate around the world. The second member of the British Team is Lewis Ibu who recently completed Law School and is a graduate of Oxford University. Lewis has competed successfully both nationally and internationally. In 2008, Lewis was the world champion at the World's Universities Debating Championships held in Thailand. After visiting Ithaca the British Debaters will tour the United States for two months visiting colleges and universities across the country.
