NSF Strengthens Grant Data Management Rules For All ProposalsContributed by Kathleen Teeter on 10/04/10 Submitted on behalf of Paul Hamill, Director of Academic Funding and Sponsored Programs. As a result of the following notice, any NSF grant that is submitted after January 18, 2011, must have an explicit section on data management. In many instances the plan is likely to make explicit expectations of publications that are implicit now, but in any case a “Plan” section must be part of the proposal package. The URL for the entire proposal guide is: http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/policydocs/pappguide/nsf11001/. Chapter II.C.2.j, Special Information and Supplementary Documentation, contains a clarification of NSF's long standing data policy. All proposals must describe plans for data management and sharing of the products of research, or assert the absence of the need for such plans. Fastlane will not permit submission of a proposal that is missing the Data Management Plan. The Data Management Plan will be reviewed as part of the intellectual merit or broader impacts of the proposal, or both, as appropriate. |
