Do you know what life is really like in New Orleans five years after Katrina?Contributed by Lyndsey Lyman on 10/04/10 If you do, then you know how much work still needs to be done. If you don't, you should find out! Either way, you should join Audrey's House -- IC's new club that's helping rebuild post-Katrina New Orleans. "According to the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center, a nonprofit research group, more than 50,000 of the city's houses -- about 27 percent -- remain vacant, the highest proportion of any city in the country. And there are roughly 100,000 people who have not returned since the storm." -The New York Times Housing isn't the only issue to be fixed in NOLA -- education, social services, and medical needs are just a few. Audrey's House is helping by raising money for building supplies and advocating in the Ithaca community through education and spreading awareness. If you want to make a change for the lives of those struggling to make it in New Orleans, join Audrey's House. Weekly meetings are held at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays in Friends 205. Questions?
