Faculty Mentoring at Ithaca College opens with "Speed-Mentoring."

 October 22, 2010 from 2-4 pm in Business 301

This workshop will open with a discussion of the keys to creating and developing effective faculty mentoring relationships.   The roles, responsibilities and expectations of both mentors and mentees will also be discussed.  The highlight of the workshop will be the Speed-Mentoring event, an opportunity for mentees to meet potential mentors. If you are interested in the Faculty Mentoring Program as either a mentee or mentor, please plan to join us for this event.

The Speed-Mentoring Model (based on the speed-dating concept) will provide an opportunity for mentees to “get to know” potential mentors and fellow mentees.  This process will lead to the creation of either mentoring partners and/or mentoring groups with other junior faculty with similar needs and interests for the 2010-2011 academic year.

During the Speed-Mentoring process, mentees will rotate every 5 minutes, spending time dialoguing with each potential mentor. During these five-minute conversations, mentees can ask questions to determine if the mentor would be an appropriate match for their particular needs.

At the end of the speed-mentoring session, each mentee will complete and submit a confidential mentor selection form.   The Faculty Development Coordinator and Faculty Development Committee will use this information to match mentors-mentees or to create small mentoring groups.

If you are interested in the Faculty Mentoring Program as either a mentee or mentor please plan on joining us for this event.  If you would like more information or are planning to attend, please contact or RSVP to Jan Monroe at jmonroe@ithaca.edu by Wednesday October 20, 2010.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Jan Monroe at jmonroe@ithaca.edu. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
