The eighth annual Veterans Day Celebration will be held at noon on Thursday, November 11, in Ford Hall in the Whalen Center for Music.  Members of the Ithaca College community are encouraged to join in the College salute to those who serve.

Thomas Rochon, President, will provide a welcome address at the ceremony. The IC Brass Choir, conducted by Andrew Benware, and IC Voices, conducted by Susan Avery, will perform.

This year's keynote speaker is Captain Daniel L. Weed of the U.S. Navy. Captain Weed is currently serving as a commanding officer and a professor of naval science for the Naval ROTC unit at Cornell University.  Captain Weed’s personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards).

The event is free and open to members of the campus community and the greater Ithaca area. The celebration will conclude by 1:00 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation that will be used in making care packages to send to troops serving overseas. Suggested items for donation include Beanie Babies, paperback books, boot socks, foot powder, playing cards, dice, dominoes, Dunkin' Donuts coffee, nuts and sunflower seeds.
