This Saturday, December 4, 2010, at 8:15 pm in Ford Hall, Double Bass Professor, Nicholas Walker, will premiere a new concerto by composer, Dana Wilson. This new concerto is in three movements and features the many languages of the double bass; from the powerful lowest register to mournful tenor melodies in the upper tessitura, the concerto showcases virtuosic filigree and funky pizzicato panache. IC Orchestra Director, Jeffery Meyer, will lead the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra for this world premiere. The remainder of the program features Messiaen: Les offrandes oubliees (“The forgotten offerings”) and Shostakovich Symphony No. 5, op.47, D minor. The Concert is free and open to the public. |
