Title:
All things Roycroftie: Excavations at the Roycroft Blacksmith Shops, 2010

Please join the members and friends of the Finger Lakes Chapter of the New York State Archaeological Association (NYSAA) for a presentation by Ann Morton on Tuesday, December 7 at 7:30 pm in CNS 204.

NYSAA meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm in CNS204.  All people with an interest in archaeology are welcome!

A large parking and drainage project scheduled for Fall 2010 on the Roycroft Campus, East Aurora, Erie County, NY necessitated Phase III data recovery on this National Landmark site. Included in the program were excavations of two blacksmith shops, dated approximately 1899-1902 and 1902-1938. Worked revealed details of both structures, and of the evolving nature of the Arts and Crafts Movement--particularly the day to day business behind the artistic facade.

Ann Morton is an archaeologist located near Rochester New York and a member of the Houghton Chapter of the NYSAA. She runs her own Cultural Resource Management firm and teaches archaeology in the Rochester area.
