Staff Council wishes to remind everyone that the State of New York prohibits smoking in the public areas of all buildings within the state. As such Ithaca College has an established smoking policy (https://www.ithaca.edu/attorney/policies/vol2/Volume_2-20810.htm) that directly addresses this for the campus community and provides a listing of the designated outdoor smoking areas. The College is required to enforce public health law and cannot allow smoking in public spaces. President Rochon stated at one of the All-College Staff Meetings that we are all responsible for the enforcement of this policy and should politely remind people when the need arises that smoking is prohibited in vestibules and entrance ways. Outdoor Smoking Areas: Open areas located a minimum of 20 feet away from entrances to enclosed areas, common points of ingress and egress, operable windows, and all types of HVAC air handling and circulation systems.
