Accomplished Grant Recipient Marco Fanti Studies with IC voICesContributed by Molly O'Shea Polk on 01/07/11 Accomplished Grant Recipient Marco Fanti Visits IC Susan Avery served as a choral director for 24 years and found she was missing that aspect of teaching when she came to Ithaca College as a music education professor. She therefore jumped at the chance when John Sigg from the sports science department approached her to start a faculty-staff chorus on the Ithaca College campus nine years ago. The chorus, IC voICes, comprises approximately 25 singers from all walks of campus life whose common thread is love of singing and learning. Rehearsals are twice weekly to prepare for various functions on- and off-campus, including a concert combined with the Community Band that includes Susan's adult community chorus, the Seneca Singers. A few months ago Susan was contacted by Roy Ernst, the founder of an international music organization called New Horizons Music, which boasts ensembles throughout the world. Ermst delivered the news that the winner of a grant award to come to the United States and study New Horizons ensembles would be visiting three East Coast sites, including the Ithaca-to-Seneca Falls area. Members of both IC voICes and Seneca Singers will have the pleasure this weekend of meeting and working with Marco Fanti from the University of Bologna, Italy. Fanti has an impressive resume, which includes degrees in the classics, teacher training, Italian linguistics, violin and conducting. http://www.pressconnects.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/201101051755/NEWS01/101050343
