Habitat for Humanity is organizing another spring break trip to Advocacy in Albany this year. You don't have to be a member of Habitat to participate! This program is perfect for those interested in policy studies.

Each year HFH-NYS holds a 4-day event to increase awareness in its affiliates, campus chapters, and the public about the importance of advocacy and its role in changing the system of poverty.
During this event you will learn about:

  • What is advocacy and why is it important
  • How to organize an advocacy campaign
  • Issues of poverty housing
  • Current New York housing legislation
  • Habitat's legislative agenda

The highlight of this event is our visit to the New York State Legislative Office Building. During this time participants lobby legislators about the need for affordable housing. Two days of building in Albany follow upon completion of the program.

The trip is estimated to cost about $120, a great deal for a week of meeting new people, participating in the legislative process, building, and fun! If this is a program you're interested in, reserve a spot by NEXT FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 11th, 2011.

E-mail Kaylee Underkofler at kunderk1@ithaca.edu with questions and to reserve your spot.
