Patricia Zimmermann, professor of cinema, photography and media arts, presented her research project, "Towards a Theory of Open Space Documentary: New Media Iterations in Singapore and Southeast Asia," at the Documentary Now Symposium at the University of Westminster, London, England, on January 29.

The research presentation was part of a panel entitled "Open Space/Singapore/Southeast Asia," featuring Singaporean new media artists Jesvin Yeo and Michael Tan from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), scholar Sharon Lin Tay from Middlesex University, and documentary maker/theorist Nikki Draper from NTU. The panel explored the innovative new media forms, archives, and practices emerging in the Southeast Asian region in the last five years that engage and intervene into the ideas of open space.

Documentary Now is an annual international research symposium on documentary theory and history from film/video to new media co-hosted by the University of Westminster, Roehampton University, and Brunel University.
