Summer Course: Cinematic Projects in Rome -- Info Meeting SetContributed by Melissa Gattine on 02/16/11 Students interested in taking "Cinematic Projects in Rome" this summer are invited to an informational meeting on Monday, February 21 from 1-2 p.m. in Park 332. Registration deadline for the course is February 22. Cinematic Projects in Rome This program provides students the opportunity to continue their cinema production work in the city of Rome, a very important site in the context of cinema history. The course will use Rome as a site for creative exploration, artistic research and audiovisual experimentation. Students will develop a series of works utilizing the city and its rich potential as both a character and cinematic backdrop for stories, ideas and concepts. The program of work will develop in dialogue with historically relevant cinematic works. At the same time it will be grounded in the contemporary aesthetics and innovation of the independent movements of experimental film and video art. This course allows students to apply the technical and formal competencies acquired in previous classes to the subject matter made accessible by an extended stay in Italy. A three-night trip to Venice to visit the Venice Biennale (the largest and most important international contemporary art exposition in the world) to survey specifically contemporary works of art using moving images is included in the program.
