“Military Propaganda and Other PR Ploys,” Tues., March 8Contributed by Maura Stephens on 02/17/11
John Stauber (right) is an investigative writer who founded CMD 17 years ago. CMD investigates corporate and government propaganda and spin campaigns in its books, its newsmagazine PR Watch, and online at www.PRWatch.org and www.SourceWatch.org. Stauber has coauthored six books with his colleague Sheldon Rampton, including Toxic Sludge Is Good for You, Weapons of Mass Deception: The Uses of Propaganda in Bush's War on Iraq, and, most recently, The Best War Ever: Lies, Damned Lies and the Mess in Iraq. Lisa Graves is a lawyer and civil liberties advocate. Before joining CMD in 2009, she worked on a range of high-tech and privacy issues at the Center for National Security Studies and at the American Civil Liberties Union. She testified on Capitol Hill about the Bush administration’s illegal warrantless wiretapping program, collection of sensitive personal information, military satellite spying, and Patriot Act, as well as on Freedom of Information Act issues. The event, which ties into Buzzsaw’s week on militarism, is free and open to the public.
