I am pleased to announce the recipients of the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 London Center Faculty Sabbaticals.

Dr. Linda Heyne, Associate Professor in Recreation and Leisure Studies (HSHP), is slated to spend the Fall 2011 semester at the London Center. She will teach “Cultivating Well-being Through Leisure Education” and explore the research topic, A Cross-cultural Perspective on Disability and Community Inclusion. While in London, Dr. Heyne will conduct pilot interviews, consider relevant literature, identify funding sources for her research, and develop a research design and methodology to sustain her research project over time.

Dr. James Swafford, Associate Professor of English (H&S), will spend the Spring 2012 semester at the London Center. He plans to offer a course entitled “Literature in London; London Visionaries,” a course which will emphasize “the real-world places upon which the literary imagination draws.” Dr. Swafford’s course will benefit many of our London Center students who seek to complete a general education requirement. Dr. Swafford will take advantage of the 2012 World Shakespeare Festival and the London Olympics to connect his course to the “urban regeneration project at the site of the Olympic Games in Hackney.”

We look forward to Dr. Heyne’s and Dr. Swafford’s contributions to the London Center curriculum and to their interaction with London Center staff, faculty, and students.
