Ithaca College In National Wildlife Federation’s 2010 Campus Sustainability DatabaseContributed by Mark Darling on 03/03/11
ICNL is the committee that manages the three College owned nature preserves that comprise a total of 365 acres and are used for recreation and research. Stewards are volunteers from the campus community (students, faculty, staff) that are assigned a parcel of land to monitor. In January 2009, Ithaca Dining Services unveiled a plan to reduce kitchen energy bills by 30% and reduce its carbon footprint by 26%. Since that date, students, Sodexo professionals, and staff from Ithaca College have worked together to complete energy recommendations given in the first report. National Wildlife Federation’s (NWF) Campus Ecology 2010 campus sustainability case studies, the only database of its kind, is available online now at www.CampusEcology.org. Close to 100 case studies were added for 2010, highlighting campus climate and sustainability efforts ranging from recycling and energy efficiency to alternative transportation systems and green jobs training programs. |
