Ithaca College

Dolce Flutes is a professional flute quartet dedicated to energetic and innovative performances. It was formed in the summer of 2008, when four passionate flutists came together to make great music. Hailed as "Four virtuosos with one incredible sound", Dolce Flutes has been delighting audiences with their impeccable performances since the quartet's inception. Their programs cover a wide array of musical styles, from the baroque to contemporary and include all four flutes of the flute family.

Dolce Flutes members include Ithaca College School of Music faculty and former students.

Kelly J. Covert is Lecturer/Performer of Flute at Ithaca College. Ms. Covert performs around the country in solo and chamber music concerts. She plays regularly with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, Syracuse Opera, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra, Syracuse Society for New Music, Ensemble X and other chamber groups. Ms. Covert has developed a workshop for flutists that uses yoga as a medium to attain better focus and energy during performance and help prevent injury. She has been on the faculty at Syracuse University and Oswego State University. Ms. Covert attended University of Georgia and Ithaca College where she received her B.M. and M.M. in flute performance. She has studied with Wendy Mehne, Claudia Anderson, Julie Stone and Jim Zellers.

Dana DiGennaro has performed throughout the United States as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. In 1994, Ms. DiGennaro was named a winner of the Artists International New York Debut Auditions and was presented in her New York solo recital debut at Carnegie Recital Hall in May of 1995. Ms. DiGennaro was also the second prize-winner of the National Flute Association’s Young Artist competition and the grand prize winner of the concerto competition at the International Festival Institute at Round Top. She received her M.M. from the Mannes College of Music. Her teachers include Jeanne Baxtresser, Judith Mendenhall and Anne Zentner. She currently resides in DeWitt, NY, where she maintains a private flute studio and is an active freelance musician.

Martha Grener earned her Bachelor of Music degree at Syracuse University and her Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music. She has also done further study at both Ithaca College and Northwestern University. She has performed with the Albany, Utica, Syracuse, and Catskill Symphony Orchestras. She is a frequent recitalist in the upstate New York area. She has served as a New York State public school music educator since 1995 at the West Genesee Central School District in Camillus, New York. She has also served statewide as a guest clinician and NYSSMA adjudicator. She was awarded a Syracuse Symphony Orchestra’s award for Outstanding Music Educator in instrumental music in 2004.

Jeanne Pizzuto-Sauve attended Northwestern University for 2 years before transfering to Oberlin Conservatory to study with Michel Debost. She graduated with her bachelors in music performance from Oberlin and later received a masters in music education from Syracuse University. Jeanne is active as a professional flutist and piccolo player in and around the Central New York area. In addition to playing piccolo/3rd flute with the Binghamton Philharmonic since October of 1995, Jeanne performed with the Albany Symphony for 2 years as their piccolo/3rd flute player. Jeanne has also played and toured with the Syracuse Symphony on several occasions.

Dolce Flutes is currently working on a new project to record newly commissioned works for flute quartet. Based in Syracuse, New York, Dolce Flutes is comprised of Dana DiGennaro, Kelly Covert, Martha Grener, and Jeanne Pizzuto-Sauve.
