The Ithaca College community is closely monitoring the news reports regarding the catastrophic earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan, as well as the ongoing situation involving the damaged nuclear reactors. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan and all those affected by loss or hardship in the wake of this natural disaster.

We are continuing to gather information about the impact of these events on our IC family—students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

As in previous global crises, our community has passionately responded to help those in dire need and, although most of our students are away from campus this week for Spring Break, I am confident that our community will continue this tradition of taking action in the weeks and months ahead.

Individuals interested in making a monetary donation have asked where they can find organizations aiding relief efforts in Japan. The website of InterAction—a coalition of international nongovernmental organizations focused on the world’s poor and most vulnerable people—has links to its trusted member organizations through which donations can be made. Please visit http://www.interaction.org/crisis-list/interaction-members-support-japan-earthquake-response to learn more.

Counseling services are available for students through the Ithaca College Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (607-274-3136). Faculty and staff can speak to a counselor through the Employee Assistance Program (1-800-327-2255).
