Violin on the Cutting Edge

Joshua Modney ("Superb" ‐The New York Times) performs avantgarde solo works from the past four decades that demonstrate the vastly expanded voice of the contemporary violin. Ronen Shai's soulful Street Musician and Taylor Brook's just‐intonation dreamscape Vocalise stand in sharp relief to the hyper‐virtuosic frenzy of Luciano Berio's Sequenza VIII and Brian Ferneyhough's Unsichtbare Farben. Robert Pierzak's Four Songs (world premiere) reach a different frontier, as the violin and the violinist's voice are joined as one.

This event is free and open to the public.  Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodation should contact the School of Music at 607-274-3717 or ekibelsbeck@ithaca.edu as much in advance of the event as possible.
