Maria DiFrancesco (Modern Languages and Literatures) was invited to give a lecture at the University of Buffalo on March 22. Her talk, entitled "Migrant Bodies Float?: Unsettled Bodies and In-Between Subjects in Por la vía de Tarifa," analyzed a series of short stories by Nieves Garcia Benito about Northern and Sub-Saharan African women's experiences migrating to Spain.

DiFrancesco's paper was part of a day-long symposium entitled "Spain to and fro: Perspectives on Immigration," which featured numerous speakers and a screening of Montxo Armendáriz's film Las cartas de Alou (Letters from Alou, 1990).
