Legal Brief Brown Bag Series – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) - Thursday, April 7, 2011Contributed by Bonnie LeBlanc on 03/29/11 When: Thursday, April 7, 2011 12pm-1pm What: All faculty and staff members who manage confidential student records are especially invited to attend the next Legal Brief session on FERPA. Nancy Pringle, Vice-President and General Counsel will be leading a lunch-time presentation/discussion on the confusion that often arises interpreting FERPA at Ithaca College and will discuss the common pitfalls that could lead to a Department of Education complaint. This session will include a review of FERPA basics, including the protections afforded to students and parents under the law, as well as the new FERPA regulations and their practical implications. Open to all faculty, staff and students with an interest in learning more about FERPA. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Legal Affairs at 4-3836.
