A specialist in cross-cultural, comparative gerontology, Sokolovsky has studied aging in numerous cultures and locations, including a peasant village in Mexico; New York's inner-city; Tampa, Florida; Columbia, Maryland; and urban neighborhoods in Croatia and England. His books include "The Cultural Context of Aging," "Growing Old in Different Societies" and "Old Men of the Bowery." His most recent work documents the role of older adults in New York City's community garden movement.
