About the Film

The experienced doorman at the Atlantic Hotel is quite proud of his position, his responsibilities, and his uniform. One busy, rainy night, he has to take a short rest after lugging a heavy suitcase in from the rain. Unfortunately, his manager comes by during the short time when he is not performing his duties. The next day, when the doorman arrives for work, he learns that he has been replaced as doorman, and has been re-assigned to the less strenuous but purely menial position of washroom attendant. Stunned and humiliated, the old man struggles to carry on with his life.

About John Stetch

John Stetch is an internationally recognized jazz pianist and composer. Stetch recorded his first album, Rectangle Man, in 1992. In 1993, Stetch earned second place in the prestigious Thelonious Monk Composer’s Competition. In 1998, he won Le Grand Prix du Jazz du Maurier at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. He has been featured on NPR’s "Piano Jazz" with Marian McPartland, Branford Marsalis’ “Jazz Set" and “Weekend Edition” with Liane Hansen. His 2002 CD Ukrainianism celebrated his heritage with a blend of jazz, classical and folkloric arrangements of melodies. His 2003 CD Standards, features ‘derangements’ of some well-trodden jazz material. The release of Exponentially Monk completed his solo trilogy. Stetch has performed solo concerts at the prestigious Monterey, Montreal, and Paris JVC Jazz Festivals. The Canadian Government has awarded Stetch numerous grants for touring, development and composition, to the trio format after an internationally acclaimed solo piano trilogy. On his new CD Bruxin’, he performs his original compositions with his trio.
