It's that time of year again! The weather is getting nice, the semester is nearing it's end, and EARTH DAY is just around the corner! Brace yourselves for an epic week of Ma Earth madness.

APRIL 18 – MONDAY – I <3 LOCAVORES

Local Food Fair (Academic Quad) – 11am-3pm - Head to the academic quad to schmooze with representatives from local food and drink operations throughout the county, like Red Jacket Orchards and Beaten Path! **Rain date April 21. Rain date for the rain date April 21 in Emerson Suites.

Veggie Teach-In (Terrace Dining Hall, Upstairs) – 5:30pm-8pm - Ithaca Dining Services is partnering with REMP to host a veggie teach-in. Students have the opportunity to experience new vegan recipes and gain new insight to eating this type of diet. Students and Faculty without meal plans are also encouraged to attend this event, though they will have to pay upon entry. Menu includes: Fresh made salsa, lentil burgers, glaze sweet potatoes, pumpkin tofu cheesecake!

Sustainability Initiative Showcase (North Foyer Lobby of Campus Center) – 9am-3pm - Various sustainability initiatives from across Ithaca will showcase their works in progress for students, from Powershift information to a proposed energy plan for Tompkins County.

APRIL 19 – TUESDAY – JOIN THE MOVEMENT.

Be a Part of the Green Revolution (Free Speech Rock) – 12pm-2pm - Students who participated in the youth activism conference Powershift will rally with students, briefing them on information from the conference and how to get involved with the Green Job, Green Energy movement!

What’s Carshare? (Academic Quad) – Daytime - A representative from the alternative transportation option Carshare will hang with a Carshare vehicle to chat with students about the program, membership, and more.

Traveling with Ma Earth (Textor  102) - 5pm-7pm - Representatives from TCAT, Carshare, biodiesel and others will come to campus to chat with students on choosing more sustainable transportation options and the benefits they provide for both people and Ma Earth!

Can you feel the Vibe? (Academic Quad outside Whalen) – Random Times - Join students in the music school for impromptu African drum circles all throughout the day, for some sun, good vibes, and a little bit of grass time. **Weather pending.

Carbon Nation Screening (Center for Natural Sciences 112) – 7pm - Dining Services presents a viewing of Carbon Nation, a documentary about climate change solutions that boost the economy, increase national and energy security, and promotes health and a clean environment. Sustainable Catering will also be providing a tasty free treat!

FLEFF Intern Appreciation Night (Park Auditorium) – 7pm-9pm - ICES and REMP along with the FLEFF higher ups will hold a FLEFF intern appreciation night to say thanks for all the hard work! (Sorry if you’re not a FLEFF intern.)

APRIL 20 – WEDNESDAY – HEMP & HEALTH EDUCATION DAY

ICES Hemp Jewelry Workshop (Free Speech Rock) – 12pm-2pm - Join members of the IC Environmental Society for some hemp jewelry making. No need to bring your own, we’ve got miles of it!

ICNL Nature Walks (IC Natural Lands, Entrance near Terrace 13) – 12pm-3pm every hour - Need time to relax? Join the stewards of IC Natural Lands for informational and relaxing nature walks all day.

Campaign for Natural Beauty (Cayuga Lake Room) – 12pm-4pm - Sick of your chemical infused make-up, ladies? Pop in to visit the IC Fems for information and samples of natural products, right for your body!

Energy Walk-Through Tour (Taughannock Falls Meeting Room) – 1:30pm-3:30pm - Attendees include Energy Initiative Team, Deans of the five schools, President Rochon, IC Faculty, Student Leaders, and Administration at IC. All will get updates of Sodexo recognitions and news, and a scripted energy walk through tour with Mary Margaret Cimino as a videographer. 

Ma Earth, I’m sick. Help? (Center for Natural Sciences 115) - 4pm-5pm - Join members of the natural and homeopathic medicine world from the Ithaca area, to discuss alternatives to traditional medical work. Learn techniques for keeping yourself healthy and not chemically imbalanced.

This Ain’t Your Average Hemp. (Textor  102) - 6pm-8pm - From ICES, comes a workshop dedicated to hemp. Listen to Ithaca Hemp Company
discuss the history and conspiracy behind the outlawing of industrial hemp, hear
from important hemp activists, and learn about the current political situation regarding industrial hemp. 

APRIL 21 – THURSDAY – GREEN CAREERS

That’s a green job?  (Career Services) – TBD (Check Career services for times) - Skype with IC alumni as they talk about their jobs in the environmental sector. A perfect opportunity to network and broaden your options for you degree!

Liz Walker Book Signing (Textor 101) – 5:30pm-7pm - Hear from Ecovillage’s own Liz Walker on her new book Choosing a Sustainable Future: Ideas and Inspiration from Ithaca, NY. Book signing will come after!

Garbage! Screening (Park Auditorium) – 7pm - The film follows the garbage production of one Canadian family over a three-month period and documents their revelations on waste production, environmental health, and global responsibility.

Want to be an environmental entrepreneur? (TC Lounge) – 7pm-9pm - Head to the top of East Tower for a night of schmoozing with Tompkins County’s own Sustainable Enterprise and Entrepreneur Network or SEEN. It’s the perfect way to collect those business cards, network, learn about internships and job opportunities in the area, and get advice about being in environmental enterprise.

APRIL 22 – FRIDAY – EARTH DAY!!

Sustainability Pledge (IC Square) – 11am-2pm - Dining Services will be in the Food Court with sustainability pledges for students to sign, giving away water bottles and raffles, and serving up a tasty treat of worms and dirt cake!

Teach Me How to Garden. Teach Me, Teach Me How to Garden. (IC Organic Garden) – 1pm-2pm - Join the Organic Growers of IC at the garden for an afternoon of learning how to start and maintain and urban garden, whether you’re a college student or homeowner!

Frack Attack (Textor 103) -12:50pm-2:50pm - Listen to voices form across Tompkins County debate and inform about hydraulic fracturing on Marcellus Shale.

Acoustic Tribute to Ma Earth (Emerson Suites) – 7pm-11pm - Join members of the IC Music Conservatory for an open-mic style night of music. Even better: it’s all acoustic. Proving to the world that you don’t need to waste energy to share the vibe, you just have to listen and feel it!
