Alicia Swords (Sociology) will speak about the book she co-authored with Ron Mize (Latino Studies, Cornell University) called Consuming Mexican Labor: From the Bracero Program to NAFTA at Mann Library at Cornell University on Wednesday April 20 at 4pm in Room 160.  

Mexican migration is a highly contentious issue in the eyes of many North Americans, and every generation seems to construct the northward flow of labor as a brand new social problem. In a Chats in the Stacks book talk at Mann Library, Cornell assistant professor of Latino studies Ronald Mize and Ithaca College assistant professor of sociology Alicia Swords will highlight research presented in their new book "Consuming Mexican Labor: From the Bracero Program to NAFTA." In their book, they dissect the social relations that define how corporations, consumers, and states involve Mexican immigrant laborers in the politics of production and consumption. The result is a comprehensive and contemporary look at the important role that immigrants play in our economy.
