Residential Life and Academic Enrichment Services are looking for two First Year
Academic Coaches for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This student position helps get out academic success information to first-year students, as well as offering connections to academic support and tutoring. 

We are looking for smart, personable students who have outgoing personalities to try to connect with students about academic success.

The specific duties of the FYAC are to

  • Provide students with information to help ensure academic success (bulletin boards, programming efforts, one-on-one engagement, newsletter/column, etc.)
  • Promote and distribute AES academic support materials to residence hall community.
  • Conduct information sessions to residence hall community on AES services (if requested)
  • Facilitate small group sessions on study skills as requested by AES staff early in semester.
  • Survey students’ needs for tutoring and other forms of academic support on a regular basis via email, newsletter, and one-on-one engagement.
  • Develop and facilitate final exam prep workshops/small group seminars.
  • Read the selected First Year Reading Initiative book to create common ground with BRT students.
  • Participate in the BRT Move-In Crew to create awareness of position.
  • Serve as a student receptionist in AES for a minimum of 2-3 hours per week in order to become familiar with AES student clientele.
  • Attend biweekly staff meetings with AES or as requested.
  • Attend AES ongoing training and student assistant meetings.

This position will be paid $11 per hour and will be for 8 hours a week, Fall and Spring semesters.  The ideal candidate will be a junior or senior.  The FYAC must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and remain in good academic standing during their time in this position.
