Saturday, April 30th at 4pm in Ford Hall: Rite of SpringContributed by Molly O'Shea Polk on 04/28/11
The Rite of Spring premiered on May 29, 1913, a historical period where music jumped into new ideas, scales, tonalities, dissonances, structures. The music composed by Igor Stravinsky, is the quintessential proving ground of any orchestra and includes innovative complex rhythmic structures that have made it a influential 20th century composition. The performance is the mammoth of the standard orchestral repertoire and always an audience favorite. The Sheherazade Trio will also be performing Beethoven's Triple Concerto on Saturday afternoon. Starting the program is Chicago Symphony's composer-in-residence Mason Bates, who is also known for his work as a DJ and Electronica composer.
