Kristina Jackson, Graduate Student in the School of Music, to present lecture-recital at International, Interdisciplinary Song Institute.Contributed by Molly O'Shea Polk on 05/10/11
In addition to participating in the program, she also will present a lecture-recital called "A Survey of Art Songs with Texts by Langston Hughes." She hopes to expose these lesser-known American art songs to those who may only be used to hearing "classical" songs. She also hopes to encourage performers to explore Black Art Song and new music with an open mind. At Ithaca College, Kristina is active in opera, concert, and recital repertoire. Some of her operatic credits include The Magic Flute (First Lady), and scenes from Mitiridate (Aspasia), Così fan tutte (Despina), and Suor Angelica (La Zelatrice). She most recently premiered scenes from a new opera, Wolf by the Ears, by Ithaca College professor Dana Wilson, in which she played Sally Hemings. She also has been a soloist with the Ithaca College Choir, the Fredonia College Choir, and the Ethos New Music Society. She earned a BM Performance from SUNY-Fredonia where she was a student of Dr. Angela Haas. Kristina is a student of Deborah Montgomery-Cove. |
