Bruce Henderson, Communication Studies, will present the Keynote Lecture at the IntegrARTS Symposium/Festival in Zurich, Switzerland.

The symposium/festival is sponsored by MIGROS, the largest retail supermarket chain in Switzerland, and brings together performers, scholars, and other artists working on disability and performance; the theme this year is Aesthetics and Authenticity.  Henderson will open the symposium with a lecture Tuesday, May 24, titled "Of Bengal Tigers, Blind Men, and Other Matters:  Aesthetics/Authenticity/Disability/Performance," and will examine how existential phenomenological theories by such writers as Heidegger and Sartre can help illuminate and work towards resolving or placing in dialogue the seeming conflicts between concepts of the "aesthetic" and the "authentic," and how disability and its (re)presentation in literary, theatrical, and other performance texts can serve to illuminate the "matters" at stake.
