No, we're not talking about Egbert Hall or College founder Grant Egbert. "Egbert", our Ithaca Carshare car, was relocated to a summer trial location farther down on South Hill. Egbert has now returned to his usual parking place next to the Park Center for Business and Sustainable Enterprise for the academic year. So he's "ready and waiting" to do the bidding of any and all Ithaca Carshare members. Remember, Ithaca College underwrites support for Ithaca Carshare membership. For IC students, after paying a $15 application fee (which covers the costs of checking your driving record and preparing your membership materials), once accepted as an Ithaca Carshare member, you pay the $4.95/hour "It's My Car" rate plus 20-cents per mile, PLUS you receive $5 in free driving credit on your account. Instead of paying for a full day's car rental, you only pay for the actual time you use the car and the distance you drive, down to 15-minute increments! And Ithaca Carshare membership IS open to students 18 and over (although you have to have a pristine 2-year driving record plus proof of additional insurance until you turn 21). For IC faculty/staff, after paying the $30 application and becoming a member, you will receive $50 in free driving credit. And you CAN use the Ithaca Carshare car for approved College business purposes. Just file for reimbursement for the expense you incur as you would for other College expenses you incur out-of-pocket. You can't beat the convenience of picking up/dropping off the Carshare car at the center of campus; and depending on your travel needs, you may be able to save your department budget a LOT of money! Contact Ithaca Carshare for more information on membership.
