The season begins with Plumfield, Iraq by Barbara Lebow, an unflinching look at the havoc a distant military conflict wreaks on small-town American life. The fall musical is The Light in the Piazza, written by Craig Lucas with music and lyrics by Adam Guettel (Floyd Collins), set in Italy and based on a novella by Elizabeth Spencer. Presented only once every four years, the next production of the season is the dance concert, Illuminated Bodies, representing many different dance traditions and featuring the choreography of the Department of Theatre Art’s dance faculty. The new year starts with the School of Music and Theatre Arts collaborating to bring Mozart’s beloved opera, The Magic Flute, to the stage. The spring musical is Working, written by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso, and based on Studs Terkel’s classic portrait of the American worker. The season concludes with Shakespeare’s dark comedy of sexual mores and hypocrisy, Measure for Measure.
