TCAT, Inc., working in partnership with Ithaca College, will offer expanded late‑night service on Route 11/90 beginning Aug. 18 for a trial period spanning the 2011‑2012 academic year. The aim of the new service on the Route 11/90 is to give Ithaca College students and others more opportunities to travel between campus, downtown or Cornell University at night and in the early‑morning hours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The enhanced schedule provides service every half hour as opposed to every hour from Ithaca Commons to Ithaca College between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturdays. The last trip departing from Ithaca Commons all three days is now 2:00 a.m.

Brian McAree, Ithaca College’s vice president for student affairs and campus life, also said Ithaca College will monitor the success of the pilot in the coming year “to determine if there is sufficient interest and usage to warrant continuation of the program."  To that end, both TCAT and Ithaca College officials are urging IC student to make use of the service.

“After enjoying the entertainment and recreational amenities in and around downtown Ithaca, we hope that our IC students will take full advantage of this opportunity to safely and responsibly return to their on-campus residences or South Hill apartments using this even more convenient transit service on TCAT Route 11 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.” McAree said.

The extra service will operate during fall and spring breaks, but not during the fall and winter holidays of November 24‑26; Dec. 22‑24; Dec. 29‑31 (Note: TCAT does not operate system wide on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1). The final day of the service will be Saturday, May 19, 2012.

Ithaca College also provides incentive for its students to use public transit by subsidizing their bus passes, which can be activated directly on to their student ID cards via TCAT’s website. Special Ithaca College discounts apply for bus passes purchased online through TCAT's website: $110 for unlimited ride semester pass (regularly $160); $30 for an unlimited ride semester pass (regularly $45); and $15 for a 15-ride pass (regularly $20).

Is the second bus pass option mentioned in the article
supposed to say a $30 unlimited ride month pass (Regular $45)?

There's a typo.
$30 for unlimited monthly pass, not semester pass :)

Also--as a student that rides the TCAT multiple times daily, this is MUCH appreciated and very exciting!!
