NSF Awards 1.2 million dollars to the Departments of Physics, Mathematics, and Education.Contributed by Jill Ackerman on 08/25/11 The Ithaca College Robert Noyce Teaching Scholarship Program will support the training and professional development of 18 new physics and mathematics 7-12 teachers who will go on to work in high-needs schools. This new program will competitively select cohorts of scholars who will receive $20,000 tuition stipends in their senior year, $15,000 tuition stipends in their MAT year, stipends for summer internships, membership in professional teaching societies, travel to professional teaching conferences, participation cost for summer workshops focused on teaching excellence to be held at Ithaca College, and travel costs for program faculty to visit scholars during their first few years in their teaching jobs. Our hypothesis is that enhanced training to prepare students to teach in high-needs schools, creating a sense of professionalism, and Michael 'Bodhi' Rogers ( physics ) is the Principal Investigator. David Brown ( mathematics ), Linda Hanrahan ( education ), Matt Price ( physics ), and Aaron Weinberg ( mathematics ) are Co-PIs. |
